Worker dies at Cariboo Gold mine project in central B.C.
Osisko Development says work has been halted while investigations are underway

One person is dead in a workplace injury at the Cariboo Gold Project in central B.C.
Osisko Development reported the incident on Thursday, saying a contractor was working on the surface when an "isolated incident" occurred and they suffered a fatal injury.
The project site is located in Wells, a small community approximately 181 kilometres southeast of Prince George and 79 kilometres east of Quesnel, by road.
In a statement, company CEO Sean Roosen said authorities have been notified and operations have been paused as investigations are underway.
"We are deeply saddened by this tragic accident and extend our heartfelt condolences and support to our colleague's family, friends and coworkers during this difficult time," he said.
The Cariboo Gold Project is in the startup phases for a new mine in an area that was part of the initial gold rush in the latter half of the 19th century.
According to filings, Osisko hopes the underground mine will produce up to 1.1 million tonnes of gold-bearing ore a year over the course of more than a decade. It also expects to employ upwards of 500 people, a significant impact on Wells, which is currently home to roughly 200 residents.
