Canada's Cynthia Appiah earned silver in women's monobob at the IBSF World Cup in Winterberg, Germany on Saturday, matching her career-best showing.

Appiah, from Toronto, finished with a two-heat time of one minute 58.53 seconds. It was her first World Cup monobob medal of the season and eighth of her career in the discipline.

"This feels amazing," Appiah said. "It feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my back."

Germany's Laura Nolte took gold in 1:58.37 for her second monobob World Cup win of the season and fifth medal in five tries. Fellow German Lisa Buckwitz picked up bronze in 1:58.57.

Appiah was fourth after the opening heat. She moved up two positions after posting the fastest run (59.38) in the final heat.

"It's great to have the fastest run again," she said. "It's something I haven't had since the last Olympic season. To have the fastest down time in the second run, especially on a German track where you know it's going to be a tough battle, is huge."

Former Canadian competitor Kaillie Humphries led the way for the United States with a fifth-place finish.

Melissa Lotholz of Barrhead, Alta., tied with American Elana Meyers Taylor for sixth, while reigning world champion Kaysha Love of the U.S. placed eighth.
