After a freezer unit fire at a Grand Falls-Windsor’s grocery store briefly closed the shop, it has since reopened.

In an email to CBC News, town communications officer Robyn Winsor said the fire department received a call about a fire at the local Dominion at 5:58 p.m. NT. Saturday.

Captain Mike Mackey said the Grand Falls-Windsor Fire Department responded to the incident quickly and firefighters found the fire in the freezer unit at the rear of the building.

He said he called for a complete evacuation of the store and there were no injuries. There was also no significant damage to the store.

Mackey said crews were able to extinguish the fire.

The store reopened Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m.

Winsor says the fire remains under investigation, "but appears to be electrical in nature."

No one from Loblaws was immediately available to comment.
