CBC's Music Class Challenge powered by MusiCounts returns for a spring 2026 edition and registration is open now.

This spring, the Challenge invites classes to either write an original song, or to learn mitêh (Heart), a new commission from Indigenous composer Sherryl Sewepagaham.

Below are the key dates to keep in mind if you are participating in this year's contest:

  • Tuesday, Jan. 13: Official registration begins at 3 p.m. ET.
  • Thursday, April 9: Registration and video submissions close at 8 p.m. ET.
  • Friday, May 15: Top 10s revealed at 8 a.m. ET.
  • Friday, May 29: Winners announced at 8 a.m. ET.

Classes may submit their completed videos at any time before submissions close on April 9. However, videos will only start appearing on CBC's YouTube channel after April 15.
