A 67-year-old man is dead after he was punched in the head in an "unprovoked attack" at Jackson Square Tuesday, Hamilton police say.

Security guards found Jerzy Nataluk on the ground, unconscious and with head injuries at about 4 p.m., police said in a news release Friday. He was transported to hospital in critical condition and died the next day.

Police identified the suspect as a 48-year-old man, the release said.

He left the area on foot after the incident, but was located, arrested and charged with aggravated assault and eight counts of failure to comply with probation, said police.

After Nataluk died, the man's assault charge was upgraded to manslaughter.
