The discovery of a body in a car in Regina has resulted in charges against a 26-year-old man.

City police officers tried to complete a traffic stop near Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street just before 3 a.m. on Jan. 19, but the vehicle took off and evaded them.

Officers in the police plane later spotted it in the 1400 block of Princess Street. Everyone who was in the car at the time had fled the scene, police said in a news release.

Police searched the vehicle and found a man's body inside.

Further investigation led them to a home about two blocks away on Dewdney Avenue.

Officers secured both scenes and got the major crimes unit, the forensic identification unit and the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service involved.

After more investigation, the 26-year-old man was charged with offering an indignity to human remains and fleeing police. He made his first appearance on the charges in Regina provincial court the next day.

Police have not released the name of the deceased man. They're asking anyone with information about the case to come forward.
