New affordable housing development opens in Saskatoon
Métis Veterans Plaza has 36 units tailored for Métis and First Nations people

Combined efforts by three levels of government and two local organizations led to a ribbon-cutting ceremony at a new affordable housing development in Saskatoon on Friday.
Métis Veterans Plaza has 36 units tailored for Métis and First Nations people. It includes market rental suites, 19 affordable units and 17 accessible one-bedroom units.
Organizers envisioned them as homes for low-income seniors, families and people with disabilities.
“Everything here was created with [the] intention to reduce barriers and to create opportunity,” said Angela Bishop of Camponi Housing Corporation.
Funds for the project came from the federal, provincial and city governments, in partnership with Camponi and SaskNative Rentals.
The federal money is part of the ‘Build Canada Homes’ initiative, designed to speed up affordable homebuilding and increase housing supply, as well as fight homelessness by building transitional and supportive housing.
“It’s to help individuals and families to live with dignity, independence and stability,” said Warman MLA Terry Jensen.

Métis Veterans Plaza will include on-site social, medical and financial support services for residents.
“My strongest hope and wish for 2026 and forward is that we use this as an example of who we can be as a community together," Mayor Cynthia Block said.
