Marie-Philip Poulin scores twice, Victoire snap skid with 3-2 OT win over Frost
Roque tipped in Poulin's pass with 28.7 seconds left in regulation to send game to OT
Marie-Philip Poulin scored her second goal of the game 3:12 into overtime as the Montreal Victoire defeated the Minnesota Frost 3-2 in Professional Women's Hockey League action Sunday afternoon.
Poulin skated through the Minnesota defence before her backhand effort beat goaltender Maddie Rooney in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,172 at Place Bell. She extended her career-high five-game point streak.
Abby Roque also scored for Montreal (3-2-0-4), with Poulin assisting on the goal for a three-point night. Ann-Renee Desbiens made 19 saves.
Mae Batherson and Kendall Coyne Schofield scored for Minnesota (4-1-2-3) while Rooney made 35 saves in her second start in as many days.
The game needed overtime because of two late goals in the third period.
Coyne Schofield's league-leading eighth goal gave Minnesota 2-1 lead with 1:50 remaining. Then with the extra attacker, Roque tipped in Poulin's pass from the side of the net with 28.7 seconds left in regulation for her fourth of the season.
Batherson's opening goal came from a shot from the left circle, beating Desbiens for her second of the season 1:09 into the second period.
With 11:37 remaining in the third period, Roque centred the puck to a diving Poulin, whose backhand beat Rooney to tie the game 1-1.
Montreal outshot Minnesota 38-21 even though the Frost outshot the Victoire 9-7 in the first period.
Montreal played the game without Canadian national team member Erin Ambrose, who was out with an illness. Minnesota's Dominique Petrie left the game with an injury and did not return.
