Charlotte tops N.B. list of most popular baby names in 2025, Jack climbs to 2nd place

Of the 5,699 babies born from Jan. 1 to Dec. 16 this year, 38 were named Jack and 40 were named Charlotte — making them the boy and girl names chosen most often in 2025.

This was 2nd year in a row that Charlotte landed in 1st spot on list

The name Jack climbed the ranks of names chosen for baby boys in New Brunswick this year.

But the province’s most-chosen baby girl name is Charlotte for the second year in a row.

Service New Brunswick says that according to preliminary results, 5,699 births were registered between Jan. 1 and Dec. 16 — 2,886 boys and 2,813 girls.

Based on those registrations, Service Canada said 38 baby boys were named Jack, and 40 girls were named Charlotte.

Last year, Noah topped the list with 49 uses but fell slightly behind this year, being used only 36 times.

Other popular names include William (chosen 28 times), Henry (27), Benjamin (26), Sophia (26), Violet (24), Olivia (23) and Ellie (22), Service New Brunswick said in a release.

While Jack was in the list of top 10 names in 2024, it only had 28 uses that year — fewer than both Liam and Oliver, used 33 and 32 times, respectively, in 2024. Neither of those names made the top 10 for 2025.

William and Benjamin did not make the top names list last year, but this year, were just slightly behind Jack and Noah.

Both Amelia and Elizabeth fell off the top 10 list for 2025, and girl names Sophia and Violet hopped onto the list.

One of New Brunswick ’s neighbours, Nova Scotia, also recently released its top baby names. Charlotte also topped the list there, but for boy names, Henry took the top spot. Jack took Nova Scotia’s third place spot for boy names, tied with Noah.

In 2024, preliminary results showed 5,822 registered births — just above the number for 2025. The final number for 2024 won't be available until later.

The preliminary results can sometimes differ greatly from the final birth count. For example, in 2023, preliminary results showed 4,642 registered births and the actual number ended up being just over 6,000.
