Police are investigating after a pickup truck went up in flames in –28 degree weather at the Saskatoon Airport.

Windchill values made it feel like –33 when the Saskatoon Fire Department was called to the John G. Diefenbaker International Airport. Multiple people called in the blaze, including STARS personnel.

On arrival, firefighters found a light duty truck fully engulfed in the airport’s parking lot.

The department said in a release that bystanders attempted to put it out with portable fire extinguishers.

When crews got there, they finished the job, extinguishing the truck and preventing the fire from spreading to vehicles next to it.

No civilians or firefighters were injured from the fire, but the incident has been handed to police for investigation.
