Winnipeg police looking for man after cab driver assaulted during armed robbery
Police describe suspect as about 35 years old with a heavy build

Winnipeg police say they're looking for a man who assaulted a cab driver during an armed robbery in the William Whyte area early Thursday morning.
Officers were called to Main Street near St. John's Park just after 12:30 a.m. on Thursday with a report that a taxi driver was robbed and assaulted by a passenger with a shotgun, Winnipeg police said in a Saturday release.
Police said the passenger asked to be dropped off on Charles Street, between Aberdeen and Machray avenues. While he was getting out of the cab, police said he produced a shotgun, demanded the driver's property and told him to get out of the vehicle.
The driver was assaulted and robbed, with no shots fired, police said. He suffered minor injuries and was treated by first responders at the scene.
The robber took the driver's property and fled before officers got there.
Police say they're looking for a man about 35 years old, with a heavy build. He may have facial hair on the chin, police said. He was wearing a black jacket and black tuque.
Police are asking anyone with information or video footage from the area at the time to contact the major crimes unit at 204-986-6219. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by phone at 204-786-8477 (TIPS) or online.
