Woman, 57, dead after struck by truck in Ajax, Ont.: police
Officers responded to the intersection of Kingston Road W. and Ritchie Avenue Thursday

Durham police say a 57-year-old woman is dead after she was struck by a pick-up truck in Ajax, Ont., on Thursday.
Officers responded to a collision involving a pedestrian at the Kingston Road W. and Ritchie Avenue intersection shortly after 11 a.m. , said the Durham Regional Police Service in a news release Saturday.
A pick-up truck allegedly struck the woman while she was crossing the street. She was transported to a Toronto-area hospital, where she later died.
Durham police said the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
In a social media post Thursday, Durham police said the roadway was closed. In Saturday's release, Durham police said it was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
Speaking to reporters Thursday, Const. Nicholas Gluckstein said the vehicle was making a left turn when it struck the pedestrian.
"This is a very busy intersection, there's multiple laneways," he said. "It is very dangerous for pedestrians and drivers alike. So we do ask that anybody that travels in intersections like this to remain vigilant and always check your front, your sides."
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
